Season 2, Episode 14: Andre - The Talking Man

I started off season 2 talking with my husband, Julius Ekardt about men and mental health. We were having a chat one evening about women and mental health and wondered why it’s associated more with women than men.

What needs to change for men to feel comfortable sharing their feelings or going to a therapist? Why is it that men are conditioned to be manly and hold it all in? Jules and I talked about his personal struggles of being a man in today’s society and the expectations placed on a man to be all things: a husband, father, son, brother and a provider but doing all this while still keeping his cool.

How do we get rid of the stigma around men and therapy or men, emotions and feelings? I decided to end the season talking about the subject again as I feel it’s so important, so in this week’s episode I talk with André, a psychotherapist passionate about men’s mental health. He shares his thoughts on the subject and how he wants to change this stigma and help men get the help they need. He encourages men to be open about their struggles and to be open with friends about seeing a therapist. The more we normalise this, the easier it will be for more men to get the help they need.

André shares his thoughts on the subject, gives his advice and urges men to start opening up. He also plans on starting a mens therapy group for men who are nervous about seeing a therapist. For more information about André and his work, get in touch with him at The Talking Man.
