Season 3, Episode 04: Amber Cook, My Cancer Story

Amber Cook went on with her day as she normally would, picking up flowers for a big floral event she was catering. All seemed fine until a big tracker trainer slammed on his breaks right in front of her. With no time at all to avoid an accident Amber ploughed straight into the truck in front of her. Shaken up and a bit tender, she hopped out of the car to find an off duty paramedic standing there to see if he could help. He felt Amber wasn’t in need of an ambulance but did suggest she gets herself to urgent care for a check up, just in case.

So Amber found herself in her local urgent care for a look over. The doctor on duty looked her over and thought she seemed fine, but stopped herself and said, you know what, I want to run a few scans. Why she suggested this, honestly, Amber has no idea, but because of that doctor’s intuition, Amber is alive. The scan results showed no damage from the accident, but did reveal a spot on Amber’s kidney. The doctor suggested she get herself to a kidney specialist asap.

Come to find out Amber had kidney cancer, which normally goes undetected until it’s too late. Her accident was a blessing in disguise. This week I chat with Amber about her cancer experience, what got her through it and how she’s coping now.

Happy listening.
