Season 2, Episode 09: Nicole Chilton, How Dreams Speak

Dreams… most of us have them. Some are so vivid and so surreal, you can’t stop thinking about them throughout the day. Not everyone can remember their dreams, but there are ways to remember. Our dreams are like windows into our sub-conscious, twisting and turning our thoughts, worries, and fantasies into crazy movie like images. Some leaving us bewildered by what we just experienced.

What do our dreams mean? Is there really any meaning at all? Why do some of us remember our dreams and others of us can’t? There are many theories on the meaning of our dreams. In some cultures, dreams are visions of the future, according to Sigmund Freud dreams are repressed expressions of the subconscious which then all tied back to our relationship with sex. Carl Jung, a devoted Freud fan believed our dreams are shared knowledge appearing in symbols and archetypes. (info from Nicole Chilton’s book, “How Dreams Speak.”)

However you look at it, dreams do get us thinking. Learning how to remember your dreams can help you become aware of the symbols that reoccur in your dreams, which then can help you become more observant when you are awake. You may start to see reoccurring symbols when you’re awake, making you more present in the moment.

How can you remember your dreams? Dream journalling. Have a diary beside you bed so if you wake in the middle of the night, you can jot down notes or first thing in the morning you can write down key words. The more you do this, the better you get at remembering your dreams. Also setting an intention before bed about your dreams helps.

In this week’s episode I chat with artist and author, Nicole Chilton about her book, “How Dreams Speak.” We chat about dream meanings and symbols, learning how to remember your dreams and how to incorporate your dream knowledge into your everyday life.
